Tektronix IsoVu ™ Technology - Isolated Measurement Probes

Whether designing an inverter, optimising a power supply, testing communication links, measuring across a current shunt resistor, debugging EMI or ESD issues, or trying to eliminate ground loops in your test setup, common mode interference has caused engineers to design, debug, evaluate, and optimise “blind.”

Revolutionary Tektronix IsoVu ™ technology uses optical communications and power-over-fiber for complete galvanic isolation. When combined with an oscilloscope equipped with the TekVPI interface, it is the first, and only, measurement system capable of accurately resolving high bandwidth, differential signals, in the presence of large common mode voltage with:

  • Complete galvanic isolation
  • Up to 1 GHz bandwidth
  • 1 Million to 1 (120 dB) common mode rejection at 100 MHz
  • 10,000 to 1 (80 dB) of common mode rejection at full bandwidth
  • Up to 50 V differential dynamic range
  • 60kV common mode voltage range

Complete Galvanic Isolation

Complete galvanic isolation eliminates the direct electrical connection between the floating inputs and the ground referenced output.

Freedom to Measure Anywhere

The Tektronix IsoVu™ Probe gives you the freedom to measure anywhere in a circuit without common mode signals impacting differential measurements.

Common Mode Voltage Capability

Allows users to accurately measure small differential signals (5 mV - 50 V) in the presence of large common mode voltages less than 60 kV from DC to 1 GHz.

Tektronix IsoVu ™ Features

Tektronix IsoVu ™ Benefits

Complete galvanic isolation eliminates the direct electrical connection between the floating inputs and the ground referenced output. Eliminates measurement system ground loops which inject noise and offset into the measurement.
Greater than 120 dB (1 Million: 1) Common Mode Rejection from DC to 100 MHz which is 33,000 times better than previously available measurement systems. At 1 GHz, IsoVu™ offers 80 dB (10,000:1) Common Mode Rejection at 1 GHz which is more than a thousand times better than previously available measurement systems. Gives the freedom to measure anywhere in a circuit without common mode signals impacting differential measurements.
Allows users to accurately measure small differential signals (5 mV - 50 V) in the presence of large common mode voltages less than 60 kV from DC to 1 GHz. Common mode voltage capability does not derate over bandwidth.
Offers a 10 meter fiber optic cable option with the same performance specifications as the 3 meter option. Allows you to move your test system away from sources of interference and radiated emissions to minimize coupling, without degrading measurement performance.

This application note focuses on accurate high-side VGS measurements using the IsoVu measurement system. The measurements described in this application note are shown on a half-bridge configuration with eGaN FETs on both the high-side and low-side switches. While high-side gate measurements are the focus of this application note, the lowside gate will also be examined. This application note addresses measurements during the following events:

  1. High-side Turn-on
  2. Hide-side Turn-off / Low-side Turn-on
